BIO

Dr Ivan Belousov is a Senior Research Fellow in Mineralogy and Geochemistry at the School of Natural Sciences (Discipline of Earth Sciences and CODES). He is interested in the fields related to Laser Ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS), ore deposits geochemistry, origin and evolution of magmas and composition of the Earth's mantle.

Before joining the University of Tasmania, Ivan completed his PhD at the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry in Moscow, Russia, under the supervision of Professor Alexander Sobolev and Dr Valentina Batanova. His thesis was on the mantle section of the Voykar Ophiolite (Polar Urals). A substantial part of the project was completed at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany. Ivan's industry experience includes working for De Beers doing kimberlite exploration and for Schpz (Satka) doing manganese exploration in Africa.

Since 2014, he has been a part of four AMIRA International footprints projects and is currently the part of the research team on project P1249: Exploring, characterising and optimising complex orebodies- upscaling orebody knowledge to add value across the Mining Value Chain. He is also part of the research team on Regional Research Collaboration project: Building capacity in Regional Australia to enhance Australia’s Economy through research, training, and environmentally sustainable production of critical metals.

Ivan has been part of CODES Analytical Laboratories since 2013. Since then he completed several hundred reports to industry on U/Pb geochronology and mineral chemistry vectoring and fertility studies. He is currently a Leader of CODES Program 5: Analytical Research.
