BIO

My research focuses on leveraging advances in machine learning and genomics to help untangle disease evolutionary ecology in wildlife, humans, and livestock. In particular, I utilize genomics and interpretable machine learning to help understand transmission and exposure risk as well as microbial assembly. The majority of my work involves viruses, but I also work on a variety of other diseases, from Lyme disease to Tasmanian devil facial tumour disease. My interdisciplinary approach bridges the gap between computational biology and fieldwork, enabling the development of more effective strategies for disease management and conservation. By integrating high-throughput sequencing data with advanced analytics, I aim to uncover patterns that inform public health policies and wildlife conservation efforts. My ultimate goal is to contribute to a holistic understanding of health and disease that benefits both humans and ecosystems.
