BIO

Dr Nathan Kotlarewski is an experienced researcher and timber design specialist with a demonstrated history of timber product innovation to commercialisation, digital fabrication, and mass timber production. Nathan has a diverse background in Industrial Design research-led practice in both academia and industry. After completing his PhD at Swinburne University of Technology, Nathan joined the University of Tasmania to undertake a post-doctoral research fellowship in the ARC Centre for Forest Value. After four years with the Centre, he moved into an industry position as a digital fabricator at CLTP Tasmania to produce Mass Timber building solutions. Whilst with the company Nathan was promoted to Production Manager and has since returned to the University of Tasmania, now in the Centre for Sustainable Architecture with Wood, as a Research Fellow in Timber Design and Production.

Publications

Nathan has published widely in industrial design and architecture, innovation and technology, building and construction, timber engineering and wood science. His research typically highlights material properties and how these can be manipulated to develop new products for the built environment. In conjunction, his research illustrates how the design process employed in the wood and wood products sector impacts timber developments and product commercialisation.
