BIO

Dr Joseph Crawford is an experienced and innovative researcher, teacher, and community leader. Before joining academia, Joey worked within education and management roles. Through managerial roles and employment within the private education industry, Joey developed a well-grounded understanding of practical issues in management and leadership. Joey undertook his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Tasmania with a focus on defining and measuring authentic leader behaviours. In this research, he reviewed the cross-section between organisational leadership theory and higher education leadership by measuring authentic leadership in student leaders and undergraduate students. Currently Joey is researching theoretical and empirical work on higher education, leadership, and organisational behaviour. Across his career, he has examined and led research on how people behave and learn in organisational contexts. This includes leadership development, student development, academic development, management, human resource management, organisational behaviour, and organisational psychology.

RESEARCH LEADERSHIP
Joey explores how people work and learn, and the effects these have on their lives. He has expertise in psychometric evaluation, diverse quantitative methods, and review methods. He has published in top management journals like Leadership Quarterly, and top education journals like Computers and Education. He is regularly invited as a distinguished keynote from areas in which he has expertise. He ranks in the top 1 percent of most cited researchers globally on Google Scholar, and top 8 percent globally on Web of Science. He was listed in the top 2 percent of researchers in the 2022 year of the Stanford Top Scientists list.

LEARNING AND TEACHING
Joey has taught thousands of students in area of organisational psychology and behaviour, particularly in areas of leadership, management, and human resources. He has led major strategic learning and teaching projects including designing institutional architecture on work integrated learning, student evaluation, and third-party arrangements. He regularly receives Teaching Commendations for student satisfaction exceeding 95 percent, and was a recipient of the Vice Chancellor's Innovation Award in 2021 for his leadership on a successful third-party curriculum program. He also leads as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice, one of the most significant learning and teaching journals in Australia, and provides expert advice on artificial intelligence education, curriculum design, student evaluation, and student development.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
As a community leader, Dr Crawford is involved in diverse community development programs, not-for-profit board roles, and is happy to serve on committees which align, and inform, his research. Dr Crawford is recognised within the community context, including recognition as the Launceston Chamber of Commerce Young Professional of the Year and a Community Service Award from Rotary International. Joey has founded multiple award-winning businesses, built on foundations of sustainability, and recognised nationally for his innovative research and development.

Dr Crawford is open to connecting with for-profit and not-for-profit organisations on prospective research relationships, evaluation projects, and advisory and board roles.
