BIO

Associate Professor Jennifer Evans is a Queer Dharug scholar with dual connections to Dharug and Palawa country. They are Associate Professor Aboriginal Health Leadership and Aboriginal Literary Fellow with research expertise in Indigenous and decolonising methodologies. Their leadership and scholarship focus are in health justice and equity for First Peoples and the cultural determinants of health.

 

In 2022 Jennifer won the Tasmanian Premier’s Literature Award for her academic work regarding Queer Indigenous voices. They are a transdisciplinary academic who has broad research capabilities in both quantitative and qualitative methods underpinned by Indigenous and Queer Standpoints. Jennifer is particularly interested in how BlaQ/k storywork is used as an anti-colonial truth telling methodology for progressing Indigenous self-determination. 


Jennifer is a General Editor of A Cultural History of Protest, Dissent and Activism, a six-volume anthology on the global history of protest, dissent and activism from Antiquity to the 21st century that will be published by Bloomsbury Publishing. They are Co-Editor of Feminist Art Practices and Research: COSMOS, and an Associate Editor for First Nations Health and Wellbeing - The Lowitja Journal.


Jennifer is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Indigenous Knowledges, and Lead for the Aboriginal Rural Health Research and Engagement Unit, University of Tasmania. Appointed at the College of Health and Medicine, she provides Aboriginal leadership and research advice to peers widely within and external to the University of Tasmania.
